I, I! . . . the filthiest of all the pronouns! . . . The pronouns! They are the lice of thought. When a thought has lice, it scratches, like everyone with lice . . . and in your fingernails, then . . . you find pronouns: the personal pronouns . . .

(make mine a chai!) ... an attempt to collect my thoughts ... travels ... and a few scribbles in one place ...

So i've just realised that my profile info still places me in Afghanistan ... somewhere i haven't been for a little while now ... It was rather a pivotal time though -- so many extraordinary experiences crammed into a relatively short space of time. Or perhaps in fact they were rather ordinary experiences, set in an extraordinary place ...

pascha ... paska ... anzac ...
had a lovely easter day ... well, weekend really ... roast lamb earlier on (of course - it's easter!), then sunday waffles and too much chocolate ... and delighting in the delight of a small sunny-haired boy ...
now i'm trying to get my head around the idea of waking up for the dawn service tomorrow ... not my usual routine, but i've had an extra- special request to attend ... not sure i'm keen on this idea of cramming easter and anzac day together though (especially since taswegians don't get an extra day's holiday anyway) ...
still ... i guess that 'lest we forget' takes on a whole new meaning this weekend ...

loose ends ...
in my usual (in!!)decisive way i've scrapped yahoo, started on tumblr, then come back here ... and still wish that fb (my addiction!!) had a journalling function attached ... but i guess i can't have everything ...
currently reading (well, re-reading) The Last Magician ... it seems so much more impressionistic than the last time I read it ... i remember being so intrigued the first time through, now i'm just thinking 'hurry up, get to the story' ... still, it is so evocative of sydney in an era that i knew ... and luckily it's soooo long since i read it that i've forgotten enough of the plot to keep it interesting (LOL!!) ...
went to see sucker punch earlier in the week (not initially my idea) ... utterly frustrating movie! ... i've read these questions since about whether it's a blow for women's empowerment or not ... all i can say is 'oh c'mon!!' ... it just reiterates the question that's been around since samuel richardson wrote clarissa ... 'why do the women always have to die?' .... and there, gentle readers, is my question for the week ... why DO authors get to the end of the story and not know what to do with the 'loose ends' aka 'inconvenient' female characters ...?
